This tutorial will guide you on how to speed up or cancel a pending Ethereum transaction using MetaMask and your Ledger device. Transactions can get stuck as pending if low gas fees were set. Please note, once a transaction is confirmed on the Ethereum blockchain, it cannot be sped up, reverted, or canceled.

Important Note:

If you initiated the transaction from Ledger Live and it’s stuck, you can’t use MetaMask’s “Speed Up” feature because the transaction won’t appear in MetaMask’s transaction history. However, you can still “cancel” the transaction or resend it with higher fees using the same nonce.
Before You Start
Access Ledger ETH Account in MetaMask:
Ensure you have added your Ledger Ethereum (ETH) account to MetaMask. Learn more.
Speed Up a Pending Transaction
Open MetaMask:

Launch the MetaMask extension in your browser.
Locate the Pending Transaction:

You should see the pending transaction if you have accessed the same Ledger ETH account in MetaMask.

Click on Speed Up:

Find and click the Speed Up button for the transaction.
Check and Adjust Details:

Review the gas price, gas limit, and priority fee. MetaMask will usually prefill these settings based on the current network conditions. You can continue without editing them if they look appropriate.

Click Save:

Confirm and save the changes.
Confirm on Ledger Device:

Ensure your Ledger device is connected to your PC, unlocked, and the Ethereum app is open.
Review the transaction details on your Ledger device and confirm the transaction.
Your transaction should be processed and confirmed shortly after these steps.

Cancel a Pending Transaction
Open MetaMask:

Launch the MetaMask extension in your browser.
Locate the Pending Transaction:

Find the pending transaction in your MetaMask interface.
Click on Cancel:

Click the Cancel button for the transaction.
Confirm Cancellation:

Confirm the cancellation of the transaction. This action will attempt to broadcast a new transaction with the same nonce but a higher gas fee to replace the pending transaction.
Confirm on Ledger Device:

Ensure your Ledger device is connected to your PC, unlocked, and the Ethereum app is open.
Review the transaction details on your Ledger device and confirm the transaction.
